What is SUK?
It is a songwriting competition, where once a month contestants write a song inspired by
one of three titles. The songs are then made available and voted upon. The song with
the most number of votes is considered the winner of that fight.
How Did This Come About?
The three founders (Johnny Cashpoint, Andy Balham, Stevie Windsor) were long-term
Songfight participants and friends who for one reason or another found there was less
time in their lives than before, so to ensure that we stayed in touch with one another, and
to keep ourselves motivated musically, we tweaked the songfight set-up a little so that it
better suited our situations.
What does SUK stand for?
It looks like it could be an acronym for Songfighty United Kingdom, doesn’t it? It isn’t. It
doesn’t mean anything.
Can I Enter?
Course you can. Write a song inspired by one of the titles in the current active fight and
send it in by the stated deadline! Simple! We even take instrumentals! 10mb limit.
Anything over 192kps might find itself re-coded at a lower bit-rate. Although this little
game is meant primarily for British Songwriters, we don't turn anyone away.
I Sent My Song – But It Isn’t In The Fight
We try our best but we can not accept responsibility for ensuring your song appears in a
fight it was entered for. Since we are doing this for free, and you don’t win anything, we
don’t feel that guilty about it either. In the event of a non-appearing-song releated
calamity, send a pleasant e-mail to johnny_cashpoint@yahoo.co.uk and we’ll try and sort
out any problems.
What do I get if I win?
To quote Blur out of context, “a sense of enormous well-being”. Also an invitation that you
do not need to accept, to contribute one, two or three song titles for the next fight.
Although that is a privilege not a right so getting aggressively shouty about it probably
won’t go down too well.
Where Do You Stand On Copyright?
Every song on this site remains the copyright of their respective authors/performers. The
owners of www.johnnycashpoint.com recognize this creative commons license although
not every participant might agree, nor do we expect them to, so best to ask before using
in any way, eh?
